" ... one of the most positive aspects of the Summer School were the people I met ... "

In the collective imagination China is that other part of the world that you often dream of when you want to change your life: a country so different from Italy in terms of history, culture, language, and especially cooking, and which appears, particularly when we are talking about Sicilians, to be as far as the Moon. I have always been curious to find out everything about the Eastern world and maybe this inclination led me to complete the application form to attend the Summer Law Institute, which I came across quite by an accident.

"I will never forget this experience, and indeed I cannot wait to have the chance to come back and be able to live and travel even more in depth Chinese land, history and culture".
I learned about this Summer School program in China through my university (the University of Milan) which offers it among the activities of international scope for its law students. For someone like me, interested in international law issues and not necessarily focused on a career in the typical legal professions, it was an opportunity not to be missed. When I enrolled, I was not prepared for what was going to happen, I had just been selected for a period of study abroad (in Budapest) through the Erasmus project and, with the same recklessness that made me participate in that experience, I ran for this initiative.

" ... the dialogues were spontaneous, everybody was eager to share opinions and ideas about the particular topic ..."

The information about the Summer Law Institute in China came from my university as part of the regular newsletter with international department offers for PhD students. I did not think long about the application, because I knew, that these kinds of experiences are the most useful things in a young research candidate’s life. The conditions were not hard to meet; the two topics were interesting and very actual – they focus on problems which are nowadays very pressing and have utmost importance – so there was nothing really to think about. It has been an easy decision. The process of application went smoothly, and I did not even notice all of a sudden I was sitting on an airplane to Beijing.

“…we lived a dream for one month in Beijing and I still remember all the good things that happened…”
I heard about the Summer Law Institute when I was still a student doing my master abroad and then I thought it would be a great opportunity for me, but I decided to apply after having some work experience. That is why I applied as a professional gaining some practical legal expertise while looking to widen my knowledge in the field of international energy law.
In fact, the Summer Law Institute constituted the perfect opportunity for a young professional working on oil and gas issues to gain further information concerning the energy sector from a geopolitical, legal, political and economic perspective, not to mention that the curriculum concerning the Chinese intellectual property law was more than satisfying from an academic point of view.
