Wu Yan – SLI Participant of 2014
“These are beautiful memories worth treasuring for the rest of my life to remind me the happiness and efforts”.
Learning, talking, eating and hanging out with active and lovely friends coming from other parts of the world is really cool!
I can picture the life of the last summer vacation if I haven’t been part of the program: meeting my old friends and catching up on things for the first few days, a short trip with my parents to visit grandparents and other relatives in my hometown, staying at home to prevent sunstroke and reading some books or surfing the internet, and then getting bored and annoying my parents for the last few days… Life would be simple but cheerless.
However, participating two interesting curricula (IP-China and SICCEP) held by Summer Law Institute in Peking University made my summer 2014 different.
Professors from different countries prepared their courses systematically, accompanied by guest speakers from different areas, sharing experience of their fields. This is a good way for us to organize our own knowledge system and know more about the fields we are interested in.
Before attending summer programme, even though I cared about climate change and environmental protection, I’ve never thought about it from professional perspective, not to mention combining it with intellectual property or other issues. It has helped to broaden my horizon and open my mind.
Class discussions and team works made up by students from different countries were my favourite parts. I liked my classmates and admired their concentration, passion and aspiration to get new knowledge. Being with them makes me to want to show myself and explore my potential. Chatting with them, rooting for them in the football game, climbing the Great Wall, drinking in the bar at Houhai Lake, and even sitting on the stairs under the August sun and eating Taiwanese pancakes or dumplings during the short lunch break… These are beautiful memories worth treasuring for the rest of my life to remind me the happiness and efforts.
Professor Farah’s individual mentoring was also very helpful. I like listening to the elders’ experience, about their success and failure, too. There is always something wise and useful which can help you to find the right destination. Prof. Farah arranged an interview to apply for an internship at China-Italy Chamber of Commerce for me, but he also helped me to revise my CV. It has been very good experience for my career planning. I feel truly grateful for that opportunity.
Confucius said: After all, is not it delightful to have friends coming from afar? Having learned something professional, made friends, and met professors and guest speakers who have motived me to be better; having sweet beautiful memories of those four weeks. If you ask me about my feelings of the Summer Law Institute, I’ll tell you: I’M LOVIN’IT!
