Chieh Sheng Lin – SLI Participant 2014
“For me, the most valuable gain has been precious friendships”.
It was a sudden surprise! During the summer vacation of 2014, when all classmates are busy by searching intern opportunities, I had a quite different experience – I attended the Summer Law Institute. I truly appreciate that participants of the Summer Law Institute were from many different countries of Europe and they were all studying or working in the related fields.
The courses of the Summer Law Institute were many and various; IP Law and Climate Change were new for me. I have been so happy to meet so many friends from many countries and attended the classes which were lectured by various specialists in these two sub-fields.

“These are beautiful memories worth treasuring for the rest of my life to remind me the happiness and efforts”.
Learning, talking, eating and hanging out with active and lovely friends coming from other parts of the world is really cool!
I can picture the life of the last summer vacation if I haven’t been part of the program: meeting my old friends and catching up on things for the first few days, a short trip with my parents to visit grandparents and other relatives in my hometown, staying at home to prevent sunstroke and reading some books or surfing the internet, and then getting bored and annoying my parents for the last few days… Life would be simple but cheerless.

“Beijing is an amazing city and Chinese food is so delicious!”
As a law student, I have always felt that being opened to different law frameworks is the most important. Currently, China is one of the strongest country, and as future lawyers or law scholars, we will probably deal with its legal system. The Summer Law Institute has been a good opportunity for me to learn properly roots and pillars of Chinese law and to experience an international academic context.

"This Summer School has been the bridge I needed to transform my wishes into reality."
I remember one year ago, I was just about to defend my Ph. D thesis, and I was thinking about my future. I was going to become a Doctor in Philosophy and Chinese Studies, and I had this deep desire to continue my research in Philosophy of Ecology, Environmental Studies and Energy on an international level. It was totally consistent for me to connect Ontology, Chinese Contemporary Studies and Political Ecology. I was wondering « How to do that? »I needed to find a bridge, a connection, a new path to transform this call in reality.
