“…we lived a dream for one month in Beijing and I still remember all the good things that happened…”
I heard about the Summer Law Institute when I was still a student doing my master abroad and then I thought it would be a great opportunity for me, but I decided to apply after having some work experience. That is why I applied as a professional gaining some practical legal expertise while looking to widen my knowledge in the field of international energy law.
In fact, the Summer Law Institute constituted the perfect opportunity for a young professional working on oil and gas issues to gain further information concerning the energy sector from a geopolitical, legal, political and economic perspective, not to mention that the curriculum concerning the Chinese intellectual property law was more than satisfying from an academic point of view.
Actually, the learning process started from every morning when I woke up to take the bus to the university, and continued during the night when we used to go out with a group of other participants of different nationalities eager to learn more about the Chinese culture and history which we had the opportunity to do, during weekends when we had free time for sightseeing. When I look back, I realize that we lived a dream for one month in Beijing and I still remember all the good things that happened, from the moment the plane landed in Beijing airport until it took off again, signalling my back to my country but for sure not the end of the dream.
Why is that? Well, simply because of the summer school, I received a research fellowship in order to work on my research on relevant legal topics which will boost my career and legal expertise. Along with the fellowship, I was selected to be a research associate of an NGO “gLAWcal - Global Law Initiative for Sustainable Development” and project manager in the Middle East and North Africa region. Said that, the reason for which the dream is not over yet is that I will be back to China as a research associate to work on my research focusing on my topics of expertise.
I only wish all the best to new students participating into the Summer Law Institute in China in 2015. I hope that you, future participants, can benefit as much as possible from this experience as we did in the previous year because, actually, it may open doors to the future professional life and personal growth. It can be even near future!
Yes, it is a challenge. Is it worth it? Of course, in fact, the question is whether you are up for this kind of challenge!

علمت بأمر مدرسة القانون الصيفية عندما كنت لا أزال طالبا يسعى للحصول على الماجستير خارج البلاد. وقتها،قررت بأن أقدم طلبا للالتحاق بالمدرسة الصيفية بعد الاستحصال على الخبرة في ميدان العمل. لذلك، تقدمت بطلب الالتحاق بعد أنأضحيت ممارسا لمهنة المحاماة بهدف توسيع خبرتي و معلوماتي فيما يتعلق بقانون الطاقة الدولي. وقد شكلت مدرسة القانون الصيفية الفرصة المناسبة لمحام طموح مثلي يعمل في مجال النفط و الغاز للحصول على معلومات جديدة تتعلق بمجال الطاقة من الناحية الجيوبوليتيكية، القانونية، السياسية و الاقتصادية هذا عدا عن الخبرة الكبيرة التي اكتسبتها في مجال قانون حماية الملكية الفكرية في الصين.
في الحقيقة، كنا نبدأ بتعلم أمور جديدة كل صباح عند استيقاظنا ولدى صعودنا الباص للذهاب إلى الجامعة و نكمل تحصيلنا خلال الليل عندما كنا نخرج سوية برفقة مجموعة من الطلاب من مختلف الدول يسعون لتعلم الحضارة و التاريخ الصيني. وقد سنحت الفرصة لنا للقيام بذلك خلال عطلة نهاية الاسبوع حيث كان لدينا الوقت للسياحة. عندما أتذكر تلك الايام، أدرك بأننا عشنا حلماً طوال الشهر الذي قضيناه في بكين كما لا زلت أذكر جميع الامور الجميلة التي حصلت معنا من اللحظة التي حطت فيها الطائرة مطار بيكين حتى لحظة الاقلاع مجدداً و العودة الى بلادنا الا أن الحلم لم ينتهي بعدها.
لماذا؟ لأنني قد تلقيت نظرا لاشتراكي بالمدرسة الصيفية منحة للقيام بدراسات قانونية تتعلق بعدد من المواضيع المهمة التي لا شك ستغني مسيرتي المهنية كما خبرتي القانونية. بالإضافة إلى المنحة، لقد تم اختياري لأصبح عضواً في منظمة غير حكومية : " مبادرة القانون العالمية من أجل التربية المستدامة" بصفة باحث قانوني و مدير مشروع في منطقة الشرق الاوسط و شمال أفريقيا. أما بالنسبة لما قلته سابقا" بأن الحلم لم ينتهي بعد، فذلك لأنني سأعود إلى الصين كباحث في مواضيع محددة متصلة بمجال خبرتي.
أنا فقط أتمنى كل التوفيق للطلاب الجدد المشاركين في مدرسة القانون الصيفية السنة القادمة.ارجو ان تستقيدوا قدر الإمكان من هذه التجربة كما فعلنا نحن في السنة السابقة لأن هذه التجربة قد تساهم في التأسيس لمهنتكم في المستقبل القريب.
نعم، إنه تحدي. هل يستحق كل هذا العناء؟ بالطبع. في الواقع، إن السؤال الواجب طرحه هو ما إذا كنت جاهزاً لهذا النوع من التحدي؟
