"One of the most interesting experiences I had in my life.."

Lengua original española

I heard about the Summer Law Institute in China because my university offered it as a summer activity. I decided to apply because I thought it would be a great experience both from a personal and an academic point of view. When I finally decided to attend the Summer Law Institute, I didn’t know what to expect from China or the program.  However, I have to say that it has been one of the most interesting experiences I have had in my life. First, because the curricula of both SICCEP and IP were very interesting and very interactive. Second, because I had the chance to get to know a fully new country from a different point of view. Being able to know both the academic Chinese World and the life that the international young community has in China has given me a broader vision of the World. Now, I wouldn’t have any problem in moving to China, a very different country, for two or three years, and I think this is a very important factor to take into account regarding the personal development this experience has given me.

When I arrived to China, I didn’t know how my life would be. I have to say that the program is very well structured. From the very beginning I felt very integrated with the people that were a part of the program too. I traveled by myself to China and I was a little scared of making friends and having a good experience in China. The first night I arrived the organization of the program held a dinner for us, and later on we went to socialize and get to know each other. Later on we grew to be friends and we now still keep in touch. Getting to know China with new people that I was friends with was a great experience for me.

On the other hand, regarding the academic and professional experience, this program has been highly valuated by different professionals I have met this year. In addition, I hope to be able to have an international internship this summer to expand my direction towards international litigation, which I have grown very interested in.

It is true that the academic curriculum is sometimes very rewarding, and there are a lot of lectures. However, now that I look back into the experience I have to say that both curricula were very intensive, but I learnt a lot about International law, and the law of China, which is something not a lot of people can say.

To sum up, it was a great experience both from the personal and the academic point of view. In addition, it also gives you the possibility to make professional contacts; therefore I advise people who are thinking about it to go definitely!
