"Face the challenge – it’s worth it!"

I must confess that when I read the call about the Summer Institute, I was really impressed by it. And attracted. But I also asked myself many questions, e.g. is it worth spending a part of my vacation and savings to go that far and face something that could happen to be a senseless adventure?!? Moreover, the questions didn’t ended with taking the decision, but vice versa - with the process of getting the visa and the rest of the preparations, which were sometimes also problematic. Nevertheless, it was about IP and competition law, which were my key professional interests and therefore I was still optimistic. Moreover, I would go to China, an interesting country and “feel and touch” its atmosphere at least!

Then I arrived and new questions started appearing. And the most important one was if it was the right initiative for me as far as the group consisted of students mainly, and I was not one. The answers started arriving almost immediately. Yes, this was the place, the initiative and the group. The colleagues were so nice and friendly and open minded, that I could never feel very different from them. I met really lovely people there, with whom it would be a pleasure to continue my communication in the future as well. I also succeeded to establish good professional contacts, some of which already proved to be fruitful, incl. with the lecturers, and I got the possibility to submit a paper about Chinese law and IP for publication as well. I learned many things about China, which have been quite surprising and unexpected for me, incl. for its IP system.

Apart from the curriculum, I had some sightseeing, which was also very pleasant and inspiring. And last, but not least, I learned many things about myself. I think that no one can ever go to China and stay the same. The country and environment are very challenging and they put on the surface many questions, which otherwise stay somewhere deeply inside. Therefore, I have been challenged and I liked it. After Beijing I became stronger, more confident and I know myself better. And I am much braver than before, I know my advantages and use them more efficiently.

So, if you want to reveal and develop your potential, you must just go to China and to the Summer Institute!
